Most product reviews are written by people who have owned the thing for a week. This site is built from the opposite: the experiences of people who have owned something for a decade or more and still recommend it.

Where the recommendations come from

Every list on this site is built from discussions on r/BuyItForLife, a community of nearly four million people dedicated to products that last. These are not sponsored placements and no brand can pay to appear here.

For each category we search the subreddit for the most relevant discussions, collect the highest-scoring comments from people describing first-hand, long-term ownership, and identify which products come up repeatedly. The aim is to surface consensus rather than a single loud opinion, so products are ranked by how often they are recommended, and we show that count on each entry. Where a category is thinly discussed, an entry may rest on only a couple of mentions — the number is there so you can weigh it yourself.

How the pages are written

We use a large language model to read through the collected discussions and summarise which products are recommended and what owners actually say about them. Every quote on a product page is drawn from a real comment, and every page links back to the original Reddit threads under "Sources" so you can read the full context and judge for yourself.

This process has real limitations, and we would rather state them than hide them:

• Reddit is not a representative sample. It skews toward certain countries, hobbies, and price brackets, and toward brands with enthusiastic followings.
• Popularity is not proof of durability. A product mentioned often is well-liked by the people discussing it, which is not the same as an independent lab test.
• Information ages. Manufacturers change suppliers, move production, and cut corners. A brand that earned its reputation ten years ago may not deserve it today. Each page shows the date its research was gathered — check it.
• Automated summarisation makes mistakes. If you spot something wrong, please tell us and we will correct it.

We do not test products ourselves, and we do not claim to. This site is a well-organised summary of what long-term owners say, with the sources attached.
