Frigidaire 70 pint

Large-capacity home unit praised for long service life and strong basement moisture removal.

Often lasts many years
Works well in basements
Good with continuous drain setups

70 pint Frigidaire. I have two of them, one is 8 years old, the other is 9. Running right now as I type this.

We've had this one for 13 years Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70-Pint Dehumidifier, White
– Forsaken_Lifeguard85

I bought a Frigidaire model FAD704DWD in 2014. It was used intermittently (a few months every Spring) and now has been running in my basement full-time for the last FOUR years full-time with a drain into a sink.

Midea Cube

Compact cube-style dehumidifier that gets frequent recommendations, with mixed reliability reports from owners.

Frequently recommended
Works for smaller basement spaces
Easy costco returns mentioned

midea cube
– Observant_Neighbor

I personally buy the midea unit off Costco. Bought 4 so far and only 1 had an issue 2 years down the line. Costco took it back no problem.
– DrippyBlock

for under 1000 sqft in a basement the midea's fine as long as it's pulling water

Santa Fe Compact 70

Higher-end crawlspace or basement unit valued for durability and near-continuous heavy-duty operation.

Built like a tank
Handles nonstop basement use
More permanent than cheap portables

If you want something more permanent, look at Santa Fe. I have one in my crawlspace and it is built like a tank. Fantastic product.

Can confirm. I have this model and it practically runs non-stop from March through December in my unfinished, brick foundation basement. It seems to be bulletproof.

I burned through three portables before I splurged on a Santa Fe Compact and it’s been humming away for over two years in my damp basement without a hiccup.

hOmeLabs 50 Pint

Mid-priced portable unit owners say performs well for years in basements and humid climates.

Good value for the money
Can last several years
Handles regular basement use

I've had my hOmeLabs 50 Pint unit for 4 years in the Midwest. Still works great
– Sonarav

5 years with two h0melabs dehumidifiers. Great value for the money (under $200), both are in the basement and run constantly April through October.
– darknighttime

I have a 3 year old homelabs that is a champ. Just need to clean the filter a couple times during the summer and empty it when it’s full.

Danby 45 pint

Older portable model repeatedly described as extremely durable, though not especially efficient by modern standards.

Very long lifespan
Works well with floor drain
Keeps basements dry year round

I'm rocking a Danby 45 pint that must be 25 years old.
– Wader_Man

Our house came with an ancient looking Danby dehumidifier. We decided to replace it with a new one. So I threw the old Danby in the dumpster, and bought a new unit. Two days later it died, so I returned it and got a different brand. That one was dead out of the box. I returned that one and pulled the old Danby out of the dumpster. Let it settle for a day and plugged it back in. 6+ years later it's still working like a champ.

My Danby has the drain hose attachment which I run down to the floor drain. Basement is as dry as a bone, year round. Love that thing.

Available at Costco

Whynter 50-pint

Portable basement unit with a standout long-life report in a very damp old house.

Reported ten years of use
Suited to damp basements
Owner bought the same model again

We had a Whynter 50-pint dehumidifier that just gave up the ghost (in September 2024) after about ten years of continuous use in our basement.
