I started with a Merkur 23C. Which is a solid razor but not exactly bifl being zinc plated mild steel.

Mine is the same model as OP, I guess I have had it about 15 years and it has a small chip of chrome missing on the corner of the safety bar after a tumble some years ago... Still works perfectly fine and you have to be really looking for the chip to see it. Inhave a few razors but this merkur is the one I use the most.
